Every Kate Koel lapis lazuli piece is built around real, crushed lapis — the same deep royal-blue stone that has been mined and worn in jewelry for over 6,000 years. The natural gold flecks you see inside each piece are real pyrite, formed in the stone itself. No two pieces look the same, because no two pieces of lapis look the same.
Each piece is handmade in our Florida studio. Our metals are carefully selected for everyday wear and skin safety: rings are set in 14k gold-filled or sterling silver; pendant frames are gold-plated brass or rhodium-plated brass; earring posts are surgical steel, gold-filled, or sterling silver depending on the style. Made to order in 1–3 weeks, in your exact ring size.

What Is Lapis Lazuli?
Lapis lazuli is a deep blue metamorphic rock that has been mined for jewelry, pigment, and ornament for over six thousand years. The blue color comes from a mineral called lazurite. The gold flecks running through it are real pyrite, formed in the same stone not glitter, not added later. Most of the world’s lapis lazuli still comes from the same mountain region in northeast Afghanistan where it was first mined in antiquity.
In Kate Koel’s lapis lazuli jewelry, real crushed lapis is set by hand into a clear protective resin, with the natural gold pyrite preserved exactly as it appears in the stone. Every piece keeps the stone’s natural variation some chips show more pyrite, some show deeper blue, some show a streak of white calcite. That variation is the signature of real lapis.

Why the Gold Flecks Matter
The gold flecks inside lapis lazuli are pyrite- a naturally-occurring iron sulfide mineral. When you see them in a lapis piece, they are not a decoration, not paint, not glitter. They are part of the original stone, formed inside the rock over millions of years.
This matters because much of the lapis-colored jewelry sold on large marketplaces uses dyed howlite, dyed jasper with paint flecks added to imitate the look of real lapis. Those pieces lose color when they get wet, fade in sunlight, or simply look flat next to the real thing. Real crushed lapis with real pyrite has a depth that imitations cannot match and that depth holds up over years of wear.
The Long History of Lapis in Jewelry
Lapis lazuli has been considered a precious stone for as long as humans have made jewelry. It was used in the funerary mask of Tutankhamun, in Mesopotamian seals, in the blue robes of Renaissance Madonnas (where it was ground into the pigment ultramarine), and in the jewelry of nearly every ancient civilization that traded with Afghanistan. In mineral tradition, lapis has been carried for thousands of years as a symbol of inner clarity and steady focus a personal token the wearer gives meaning to, not a magic charm.
Kate Koel’s lapis lazuli pieces continue that long tradition in a contemporary form: real stone, modern setting, wearable every day.
How Kate Koel Lapis Lazuli Jewelry Is Made
Every piece starts in our Florida studio with raw lapis lazuli. We get our stone broken down into fragments, sorted by color and pyrite content, and then arranged by hand inside each setting. We choose where the deepest blues go, where the gold pyrite lands, and how each chip sits next to the next. After the composition is set, a clear protective lens is poured and sealed. The result is water-resistant, UV-stable, and will not yellow. Each setting is then finished by hand and polished.
Because each piece is arranged by hand from natural stone, no two are ever identical. Your Lapis Lazuli ring will look like yours, not like the next one in the batch. That is the point

Lapis Lazuli Rings
Lapis lazuli rings are one of the strongest ways to wear this stone. The saturated blue color naturally catches the eye, while the handcrafted finish makes every ring feel more personal. If you love jewelry that adds color without feeling loud, lapis lazuli jewelry in ring form is a beautiful place to start.
This collection includes lapis lazuli rings that work for both everyday wear and more styled looks. Some feel bold and expressive, while others are easy to stack and mix. That balance makes lapis lazuli jewelry especially appealing for people who want pieces that feel artistic but still easy to wear.
Lapis Lazuli Necklaces
Lapis lazuli necklaces bring color close to the face and make styling feel effortless. A necklace can be the focal point of your outfit, or it can layer beautifully with other chains and textures. Lapis lazuli jewelry in necklace form is especially versatile because the deep blue tone works with denim, black, white, cream, and warm metallic tones.
Each necklace in this lapis lazuli jewelry collection is designed to feel distinctive. The crushed stone creates natural variation, which means no two pieces look exactly alike. That is part of what makes handmade lapis lazuli jewelry feel special.
Lapis Lazuli Earrings
Lapis lazuli earrings are an easy way to add color to your look without overthinking it. Whether you choose studs, drops, or more expressive designs, lapis lazuli jewelry in earring form adds a rich blue accent that feels polished and creative at the same time.
This collection includes lapis lazuli earrings made to be noticed while still feeling wearable. The handcrafted crystal style gives the stone more texture and light, which makes the blue even more eye-catching.
Lapis Lazuli Bracelets
Lapis lazuli bracelets offer a softer and more relaxed way to wear this color. They look beautiful on their own and pair easily with other bracelets, chains, or rings. If you enjoy layered styling, lapis lazuli jewelry in bracelet form can bring depth and contrast to your stack.
Because each design is handmade, every bracelet has its own subtle character. That gives the collection a more thoughtful and artistic feel than standard blue gemstone jewelry.
Why Lapis Lazuli Jewelry Is So Loved
Lapis lazuli jewelry has remained popular for a reason. The color is rich, classic, and instantly recognizable. It feels bold without being harsh, and expressive without trying too hard. That makes lapis lazuli jewelry a natural choice for people who want gemstone jewelry with depth and presence.
In this collection, the stone is reimagined through my signature handmade crystal style. Instead of using generic settings and predictable shapes, I create lapis lazuli jewelry that feels fresh, artistic, and personal. The result is jewelry that brings together color, texture, and craftsmanship in a way that feels easy to love.
How to Style Lapis Lazuli Jewelry
Lapis lazuli jewelry works beautifully with both everyday outfits and more dressed-up looks. The deep blue color pairs especially well with white shirts, black dresses, denim, cream knits, and neutral layers. It also looks stunning with gold-filled details and equally elegant in sterling silver.
You can wear one standout piece, like a ring or necklace, or combine several pieces of lapis lazuli jewelry for a more complete look. Earrings and rings together create a polished finish, while a necklace adds a stronger statement.
